Central Co-op has officially opened its brand-new community store in Mosborough, Sheffield, welcoming customers with a celebration full of local flavour, fun and co-operative spirit.
To mark the store’s opening on launch day, children from Mosborough Primary School were invited to cut the ribbon alongside local historian Philip Staton and representatives from Team Fostering, a local not-for-profit fostering agency. The celebration included a special golden ticket event, with the first 50 customers receiving guaranteed prizes ranging from fruit plush toys and Co-op chocolate to a six-bottle box of award winning Co-op Les Pioneers Champagne.
The new store, which has created 14 jobs in total (including 8 new recruits from the local area), offers a modern, convenient shopping experience, with hot food, an in-store bakery and a free water fountain. It also includes three self-scan checkouts, a customer toilet, bike station, and services such as Collect+, PayPoint and an Insomnia coffee machine.
As part of its long-term investment in sustainability and community, Central Co-op is also exploring the installation of solar panels on the site, and commissioning a local artist to create a bespoke mural on the exterior wall.
In the run-up to the launch, Tanya Noon, Central Co-op’s Member and Community Relations Officer for the North, hosted a “Get to Know Your Co-op” session, inviting residents to learn more about the Society’s values, Membership benefits and local impact. The event drew over 70 people, demonstrating strong local interest and support.
Tanya said: “We’re thrilled to be opening our doors in Mosborough. This isn’t just a new store, it’s a new part of the community. From our team of friendly colleagues to local partnerships and our sustainability ambitions, we’re looking forward to being a truly co-operative neighbour.”
The Mosborough opening forms part of Central Co-op’s ongoing efforts to invest in local communities across Yorkshire and beyond, creating good jobs, supporting ethical trading and providing access to quality, everyday essentials.
