Users from Uplands Community Centre in Lowestoft are celebrating after receiving a cheque for £3800 from Central England Co-operative.
The cheque was presented to David Randall from the local group by Store Manager Christopher Drone on Wednesday (15th) after it made an application to Central England Co-operative’s Community Dividend Fund. The funds will be used to purchase a new floor for the hall which will directly benefit people from the local community.
David Randall from Uplands Community Centre said: “We would like to thank Central England Co-operative for these much needed funds. The money will be used to buy a new floor for the hall which will make a huge difference to the facility.”
Charities and local groups can apply for awards through Central England Co-operative’s Community Dividend Fund which guarantees that at least 1% of the Society’s trading profit is reinvested in local communities. The scheme has already donated over £2million to local neighbourhood causes.
Christopher Drone, Store Manager at Central England Co-operative’s Lowestoft Food Store added: “It is a founding principle of our Society to reward customer loyalty by investing in and supporting local communities. Every three months, many schemes benefit from awards which range in value from £100 to £5,000 making local communities better places for our members to live and work in. This is a very worthwhile project which will benefit the community for many years to come.”
Any member of Central England Co-operative can apply for a Community Dividend award and application forms are available at any Central England Co-operative trading outlet or can be downloaded from our website: http://communities.centralengland.coop/
