Local Co-op Invests in Whitwick Parish Council

Whitwick Parish Council is celebrating after receiving a cheque for over £700 from Central England Co-operative.

The cheque was presented to Philip Ellis from the local group by Store Manager Dave Hexall on 20 July after it made an application to Central England Co-operative’s Community Dividend Fund.  The funds will be used towards the installation of a kitchenette which will directly benefit people from the local community.

Philip Ellis from Whitwick Parish Council commented: “We would like to thank Central England Co-operative for these much needed funds.  The money will be used to install a kitchenette allowing us to better meet the needs of the local community.”

Charities and local groups can apply for awards through Central England Co-operative’s Community Dividend Fund which guarantees that at least 1% of the Society’s trading profit is reinvested in local communities. The scheme has already donated over £2million to local neighbourhood causes.

Dave Hexall Store Manager at Central England Co-operative’s Whitwick Food Store added: “It is a founding principle of our Society to reward customer loyalty by investing in and supporting local communities.  Every three months, many schemes benefit from awards which range in value from £100 to £5,000 making local communities better places for our members to live and work in.  This is a very worthwhile project which will benefit the local community for many years to come.”
