Thringstone House Community Centre from Thringstone is celebrating after receiving a cheque for £1000 from Central England Co-operative.

The cheque was presented to Lorraine Whitehurst and Michael Statham from the local group by Store Manager James Barker on 20th July after it made an application to Central England Co-operative’s Community Dividend Fund.  The funds will be used to purchase two benches which will directly benefit people from the local community.

Lorraine Whitehurst from Thringstone House Community Centre commented: “We would like to thank Central England Co-operative for these much needed funds.  The money will be used to purchase two benches allowing us to better meet the needs of the local community.”

Charities and local groups can apply for awards through Central England Co-operative’s Community Dividend Fund which guarantees that at least 1% of the Society’s trading profit is reinvested in local communities. The scheme has already donated over £2million to local neighbourhood causes.

James Barker Store Manager at Central England Co-operative’s Thringstone  Food Store added: “It is a founding principle of our Society to reward customer loyalty by investing in and supporting local communities.  Every three months, many schemes benefit from awards which range in value from £100 to £5,000 making local communities better places for our members to live and work in.  This is a very worthwhile project which will benefit the Community Centre for many years to come.”

Any member of Central England Co-operative can apply for a Community Dividend award and application forms are available from any Central England Co-operative store or can be completed and submitted online: http://communities.centralengland.coop/
