Houghton Village Hall in Houghton on the Hill is celebrating after receiving a cheque for £5,000 from Central England Co-operative.

The cheque was presented to Ian Hill from the local group by Nicky Vyas and Tanya Keymer from Central England Co-operative, on 29th August after it made an application to Central England Co-operative’s Community Dividend Fund.  The funds will be used towards improvements to the hall which will directly benefit people from the local community.

Ian Hill from Houghton Village Hall commented: “We would like to thank Central England Co-operative for these much needed funds.  The money will be used to towards improvements allowing us to better meet the needs of local community groups.”

Charities and local groups can apply for awards through Central England Co-operative’s Community Dividend Fund which guarantees that at least 1% of the Society’s trading profit is reinvested in local communities. The scheme has already donated over £2million to local neighbourhood causes.

Nicky Vyas, from Central England Co-operative’s Houghton on the Hill Food Store, added: “It is a founding principle of our Society to reward customer loyalty by investing in and supporting local communities.  Every three months, many schemes benefit from awards which range in value from £100 to £5,000 making local communities better places for our members to live and work in.  This is a very worthwhile project which will benefit local community groups for many years to come.”

Any member of Central England Co-operative can apply for a Community Dividend award and application forms are available from any Central England Co-operative store or can be completed and submitted online: http://communities.centralengland.coop/
