Central Co-op launches new Membership proposition and app: introducing Reward ££s and a UK-first digital experience

Central Co-op has unveiled a brand-new way to reward its Members, with the launch of its reimagined Membership and new app.

From the 10th of September, Members will start earning Reward ££s - cashback-style rewards that replace Member-only prices. Everyone now pays the same price in-store, but Members get extra value back into their Member Pot every time they shop.

That Member Pot holds both Reward ££s and Share of the Profits to be spent in-store. Whether Members want to knock money off their next shop or save it up for special moments like Christmas or birthdays, the choice is theirs.

Early trials show Members are already saving more than ever before, with many choosing to build up their pots for bigger spends.

The new Central Co-op Membership app makes it easy to track rewards and unlock even more benefits, including:

  • Weekly games - play to win free products or discounts
  • Challenges - complete fun missions, like buying a certain amount of Fairtrade items, to earn extra rewards
  • Exclusive offers - special deals Members can opt into via the app or website, including limited time deals to save even more

Members can get guidance from dedicated ‘app-fluencers’ in every Central Co-op shop to help navigate the app and answer any questions. Not got a smartphone? No problem. Members can still use their physical cards and check their pots in-store on the receipt, or online via the Membership portal.

Mini launch events took place at Central Co-op shops across the UK, including at Streethay in Lichfield, where shoppers had the chance to explore the new app and try their luck on the ‘spin the wheel’ - both digitally and in-store - to win exciting prizes.

Charlotte Castille, Head of Membership Brand and Marketing at Central Co-op, said: “We’ve listened to feedback from over 20,000 Members who told us they wanted a fairer, more flexible way to be rewarded. We’ve reimagined Membership to do just that. With Reward ££s, our Members are in control - they can spend their rewards on their next shop or save them for when it matters most. This is the biggest change to Central Co-op Membership in our history, and we’re proud to be leading the way in the UK.”

Central Co-op is the first UK retailer to use this app technology, created in partnership with fellow co-operative Lobyco/Co-op Denmark, with features designed specifically for Central Co-op Members.

The scheme was trialled earlier this year in five stores and has now rolled out across all Central Co-op shops, with full access for all Members from the 10th of September.

And it’s not just Members’ shopping baskets that will benefit. Central Co-op’s Community Support Fund is also returning with a fresh new look, with more information to follow soon.
