The Society has announced proposed plans for the closure of the following stores and post offices:
• Melton Mowbray Store and Post Office
• Corby Store, Post Office and Travel
• Bell Street, Wigston Store and Post Office
• Kents Moat Store and Post Office.
Central England Co-operative is constantly adapting to retail challenges at a local level, including the impact of competition in order to ensure its continued long term growth.
The proposed closures will take place at the end of January 2016 and on Tuesday 1st September the Society entered into a formal 45 days consultation with colleagues at these sites.
These decisions are never taken lightly and take into account the following:
• Store location, i.e. catchment area, demographics and competitive advantage
• Strategic fit, i.e. if the Society can compete and defend the location
• Profitability and the ability to continue to create future value for the Society, its members and its communities.
